Kaisa-Tuulia Tuomi is a visual artist based in Tampere, working in the former Nanso factory premises in Nokia. She is originally from Sotkamo.\n\nTuomi graduated as a professional visual artist from SAMK Kankaanp\u00e4\u00e4 Art School in 2025 and also completed a Master's level degree there in 2020. She earned her Master\u2019s degree in Art Education from the University of Lapland in 2008 and has worked as a lecturer in visual arts education in the Pirkanmaa region for over ten years since 2008.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

In this world as it is now, skin, touch, and sexuality represent stability and security to me. Purity and comfort. Something that is certain and enduring.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

My works speak about sex \u2014 how I personally experience it as a feeling and a connection, and what I want to express about it. The merging of two bodies, closeness, safety, and strength, but also turning away, abandonment, and loneliness. \n\nSince sex is such an essential part of humanity, I strive for a depiction that feels everyday, familiar, beautiful, yet carnal. Bodies intertwine through the mind, not from an external perspective. That is why the figures may be limbless, genitals may multiply, and the characters may seek a fleshy, unified sensation.<\/span><\/p>

Fabrics and wallpapers created through woodcut printing provide a sense of recognition and security.<\/span><\/p>

Large works demand to be seen, while small woodcuts invite the viewer to come closer.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The peep boxes are interactive for the viewer; press the light button and look through the door viewer to see the content. Come closer, touch. The woodcuts on the boxes explore themes of abandonment and turning away\u2014those moments when not everything goes as planned.<\/span><\/p>

The artistic historical framework of the works is rooted in Shunga, the erotic art of Japan's Edo period.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Physicality plays a significant role in my work, both through large painted surfaces and woodcuts. Pushing the body to its limits is the most essential cornerstone of my process. <\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
